is a 'must see' village 45 minutes from the house. It has the dramatic ruined cliff-top castle as a backdrop and is
acknowledged as one of themost beautiful villages
of France (‘plus
beaux villages de France’ ). Its medieval streets provide very pleasant marked-out walks that provide surprises around every corner.
There is a spectacular fireworks display on the
first Sunday of August with the castle and the
river as a backdrop. The display begins at
with a Fete in the afternoon.
The village provides an number of eating options to cover most pockets. There is a small eating area in the heart of the village which is served
by a couple of little restaurants- ideal for
coffees. There is also a number of antique shops to wander
through or to just window shop.
Newly opened at Angles-sur-l'Anglin in the spring of 2008 is the 'Roc Aux Sorciers' ( witches rock) a site of prehistoric carvings dating from 14 000 years ago. A replica has been made in order that everyone can admire this important prehistoric art-work but the feedback we have had is that it is not a great experience.
