Fly-Drive
U.K. & Ireland
Fly-Drive packages provide a great alternative for visitors to the
Loire Valley who do not wish to take their own vehicle. The
area, as indeed all of France, now has airlines flying into the
smaller regional airports so there has not been a better time to
use this method of getting to your destination.
The
prices compare favourably with self-drive/ferry travel especially if
you are travelling from Ireland, Scotland or the north of England. Fly to the nearest
airport to your ultimate destination and finish the journey off in
your hire car - or fly to Paris, pick up a hire car and take in some
of the sights en-route to your 'Loire Valley experience'.
UK and Irish
airlines flying into Tours / Paris are:
Tours airport is a good option as a destination
as it gives excellent access to the whole of Loire
Valley/Centre region. The airport itself is a 10 minute bus/taxi
trip to the city centre
where you have access to the TGV and SNCF rail networks or can
pick up your hire-car. From the city you have easy access to the excellent French
autoroutes (motorways) network.
The airport is open seven days a week with frequent services from Ryanair to and
from London Stansted. The recently refurbished terminal is small but
adequate and enjoys free short term parking, the bus
service into the city centre, taxis and car rental facilities.
Depending on where you are travelling from, Angers Airport
is also within easy reach of the city and offers flights to/from alternative destinations (such as
Manchester and Southampton). Both rail and road links are excellent
between Angers and Tours - expect either journey to be about 2-3
hours.
Poitiers airport is also an option if only as a 'time'
alternative - flights are later in the afternoon- but you then have
to drive to Tours.
