Richelieu

Holy Trinity chapel Richelieu

The town of Richelieu is an interesting place and as we have found, there is more to it than the square and the park. There has been a big commitment to tourism recently in the town, which has led to an excellent exposition about the Cardinal and the town itself. We had heard of a small chapel that was hidden behind one of the large town houses on Grande Rue but on a earlier visit had failed to locate it. Now it's a little easier as number 21 has a European Union Flag above it which draws the eye. As you peer through the little doorway you are met by a pleasant surprise...

...this beautiful little chapel. It sits in the grounds of what was a former orphanage and this was the place of worship for the children and staff. Sadly I have not been able to find out much about the orphanage itself.
