Saint Didier - Cheille

The Church of Saint Didier in the village of Cheille just over 6km to the west of Azay-le-Rideau might normally be considered unremarkable apart from one thing...it has a centuries-old oak that grows out of the wall of its bell tower!

You enter this church, the earliest parts that date from the 12th century, via a covered portal that leads  into a rather confusing interior layout, the result of changes made to the church over the proceeding centuries.

There is a delightful chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary but no sign of out 'Joan'

As we have said it is the oak tree in the wall that makes this church worth a visit
